As the world's largest wholesale food market, the International Rungis Market spans 232 hectares and brings together thousands of professionals, continuous goods flows and multi-tenant buildings subject to the strictest requirements of French labour regulations. Operating 24/7, this environment demands flawless fire protection without disrupting business activities.

Following a tender launched by SEMMARIS, the principal project owner, Scutum was selected to design and deploy an APSAD R7-compliant Fire Safety System (FSS) across two strategic buildings: the F4 building and the BOD-DOD building. This large-scale project was delivered in partnership with NAMIXIS, acting as project manager, between December 2025 and April 2026.

Challenge

The International Rungis Market never stops operating. Any intervention within its buildings must be carried out alongside occupants, without disrupting operations or creating operational risks. The existing multi-tenant F4 building required full compliance through comprehensive fire monitoring, with alarm notifications transmitted directly to the Market's Central Security Control Room. The BOD-DOD building required the redesign of existing detection zones, the creation of new zones to ensure complete coverage, and the centralisation of the entire system within a single Fire Safety System cabinet. Two buildings, two distinct configurations, one common requirement: a fully integrated, scalable and certified solution deployed without disruption to the 1,200 companies operating on the site.

Solutions Implemented

Scutum delivered a comprehensive technical approach based on state-of-the-art equipment and seamless integration with the existing systems of the International Rungis Market.

1 - APSAD R7-Compliant Fire Safety System for the F4 Building

Implementation of a complete fire safety system providing full monitoring in accordance with APSAD R7 standards. Real-time alarm transmission to the International Rungis Market's Central Security Control Room ensures maximum responsiveness.

2 - Detection System Upgrade and Extension for BOD-DOD

Redesign of existing detection zones, creation of new zones to guarantee complete building protection, and centralisation of all functions within a single Fire Safety System cabinet. Full compliance was achieved while maintaining operational continuity.

3 - High-Performance Equipment

Deployment of an ESSER IQ8 control panel and the CLSS ESSER supervision platform, providing a comprehensive dashboard for preventive maintenance monitoring, rapid alarm management and maintenance scheduling. Across both buildings, 300 optical smoke detectors and 10 linear detectors were installed, supported by 8,000 metres of cabling.

4 - Integration with the Central Security Control Room and APSAD Certification

The entire solution was integrated into the International Rungis Market's centralised supervision system. All installations obtained the required APSAD certifications, ensuring regulatory compliance and insurance recognition.
