SHERLOCK HOLMES MUSEUM

Modernizing and upgrading the security systems of a historic London landmark.

TALK TO AN EXPERT

The Sherlock Holmes Museum, located at the famous address of 221B Baker Street in London, welcomes thousands of visitors every year attracted by its rich literary heritage and unique historical setting. Housed in a multi-storey Georgian townhouse with valuable artifacts, the museum required a robust, modern security solution. Scutum was called in to assess existing systems, recommend improvements and implement a future-proof solution to enhance security, facilitate remote monitoring and support long-term operational needs.

Challenge

The museum was facing growing security concerns due to outdated CCTV and supervisory systems, creating potential loopholes in a narrow, multi-level building. With compact interior spaces spread over several floors and thousands of visitors every year, the museum needed better visibility while preserving its historic atmosphere. Management was also looking for a scalable solution, capable of adapting to future needs to ensure the continued protection of visitors and collections.

Solutions implemented

Scutum took charge of all the museum's security, including ongoing maintenance of all CCTV cameras and recording systems. High-definition cameras were discreetly installed throughout the building to preserve the period aesthetic while enhancing coverage. Recording and storage systems were upgraded to ensure continuous and reliable image preservation, while remote access now enables management to monitor the museum in real time from a smartphone or other device. The infrastructure installed is modular, allowing for future extensions without major disruption. All the work has been carefully coordinated to minimize the impact on day-to-day operations and preserve the visitor experience.

- Enhanced surveillance: High-definition cameras provide clear, detailed images on all floors.
