Electronic security refers to all the technological systems used to prevent, detect and respond to incidents that threaten a company's people, property or premises. It is built on three complementary functions.

The two terms are often used interchangeably, but they cover different realities.

- Safety deals with unintentional risks: accidents, disasters, fires, water damage, technical failures, workplace accidents. The aim is to prevent these events and limit their consequences.
- Security deals with intentional risks: theft, intrusion, vandalism, assault, sabotage, malicious acts. The aim is to deter, detect and stop hostile acts.

A comprehensive protection policy covers both dimensions and coordinates them. This is exactly the approach Scutum takes: one operator and one platform to manage fire safety, remote monitoring, access control and the protection of people.

Five systems are most commonly deployed in businesses.

- Intrusion alarms. Motion detectors, door and window contacts, glass-break sensors, sirens. The foundation of any security setup.
- Video surveillance. HD to 4K IP cameras, AI-powered video analytics, secure NVR recording. A tool for deterrence, alarm verification and evidence gathering.
- Access control. Badges, biometric readers, central management of access rights, traceability of entries and exits.
- Remote monitoring. A 24/7 service that connects all systems to a monitoring station staffed by professional operators for alarm assessment and response.
- Perimeter detection. Infrared barriers, sensor cables, fence-mounted detectors. The first line of protection for large sites.

These systems are at their most effective when integrated into a single supervision platform, such as the Smart Security Platform, which lets the different layers communicate with each other and enables a coordinated response.
