Lone working regulations must be considered where employees work out of sight or earshot of colleagues. In the UK, lone working is not governed by a single specific law, but is covered by broader health and safety legislation.
Employers have a legal duty under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, the health, safety, and welfare of their employees.
This includes identifying risks associated with lone working, carrying out suitable risk assessments, and putting appropriate control measures in place to reduce or manage those risks.
